Dog Breeds, Training, and ToysDog Breeds

As many people who have had dogs in the past can attest, they can make excellent companions. However, some breeds will be better fits than others in specific situations. For example, if you live in a small apartment, a Great Dane is probably not the best kind of dog for you. Likewise, if you want a dog that is going to climb through the mountains and go swimming with you, you probably won’t be interested in a Chihuahua. In any case, though, you’ll need to be informed about the best ways of feeding and taking care of your dog. Designerdogbreeds.com aims to provide you with reliable, useful information about all things relating to dogs, dog care, dog accessories and dog breeding.

The dog has been thought of as a human companion or “man’s best friend” for a long time. There is a great deal of speculation about when and why canids came to live with humans, but little evidence to provide a straightforward answer. Some people suspect this relationship developed thousands and thousands of years ago. Whatever the origin, it’s clear that humans began making more use of dogs upon the invention of agriculture. This relationship began to result in the domesticated dogs we recognize today, which vary in significant ways from their wolf ancestors.

Prior to about that time, there was not a great deal written about dogs, though there were known dog types. As for dog breeds, as we think of them today, the modern sense of that word basically came along in 1873 with the establishment of the English Kennel club. This club was dedicated to documenting the pedigrees of various animals, including not only dogs but also horses and cattle.

And the relationship has grown from there. Dogs are still used to help herd cattle and perform other farming tasks. However, they are also frequently seen in all kinds of cities worldwide, from small towns to urban metropolises. Many people have recognized that it can be an unrivaled feeling to come home and have your beloved pet waiting for you. Dogs are also fun to take on a walk, and give you a good reason to get outside and exercise. In short, the benefits to having a dog are many.

That is not to say, however, that there aren’t also significant costs that come with welcoming a dog into the home. First of all, if you choose a purebred or “designer” dog (more on the latter category can be found elsewhere in this site), these dogs can be very expensive, costing hundreds and even thousands of dollars right from the start.

Dogs also require a lot of time and care. You will need to buy the correct food, give your dog the proper shots, and provide toys to keep the dog occupied. You will also need to be prepared just in case a surprise visit to the veterinarian is required. More and more, people are also choosing to buy such items as dog beds. Some people also like other dog-related accessories such as dog clothes and costumes, though these are far from a necessity.

New dog breeds are continually being created to this day—sometimes accidentally, sometimes deliberately. These are usually called “emerging breeds.” In general, a dog can only be guaranteed to be of a specific breed if it is documented in the “stud book” of a major dog registry or breed registry.

Determining which dog is best for you will depend on what you are looking for in a pet. Are you looking for something fairly calm and docile, so that you know your child will be safe playing with it? Do you want a dog that will excel in the outdoors? Are you more interested in the specific personality of the dog? Sometimes nothing more is required in dog selection than going down to your locale humane society and seeing which dog you fall in love with. Other times, more specific research will be required.

Whatever the case, there is a lot of knowledge you will need as you begin to care for your dog. Designerdogbreeds.com exists to help provide you with this information, whether you have questions about different types of dog breeds, types of dog food, or other pet products.
