Dog Crate

If you plan to do any traveling with your dog, you will need a dog crate. These are useful because they keep the dog from running about, and airlines require them if you are going to take a dog on the plane.

There are three main types of dog crates: wire mesh, hard plastic and soft fabric crates. If you are going to be traveling with your dog regularly, you will want to choose a crate that is both sturdy and relatively spacious and comfortable. Obviously, make sure you find a crate that is big enough for your dog.

Hard plastic crates are the most common option because they are sturdy and lightweight and easy to transport. Others prefer soft crates because dogs are more comfortable in there. However, generally airlines only accept a certain kind of crate, and most of them are made of hard plastic. If you will be traveling in your own car, you have more options available. Soft dog creates, for example, fold up easily and provide more comfort. They are also highly ventilated and generally more comfortable for the dog.

It is also possible (and can be valuable) to crate train your dog so it doesn’t overreact when it finds itself in a strange crate. These training methods are similar to other training matters; it is just a matter of making your dog see the place as a place of comfort, rather than something ominous.
